Request for Proposal (RFP) Health Access 2012-2014

The San Joaquin County Children and Families Commission (First 5 San Joaquin) is pleased to announce the availability of funding through this Request for Proposals (RFP) for Collaborative for Healthy Change Projects. This RFP seeks to fund nutrition and physical activity collaborative projects to address the concern of childhood obesity through provision of both direct service and systems change efforts over a period of two years, 2012-14. First 5 And Local Hospitals Partner on Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Local hospitals will be distributing over 1,000 bags, beginning January 1,2012, with t-shirts for babies with the safe sleep message "Turn Me Over" and "This Side Up" and tips for parents on how to create safer sleeping environments for infants. Safer Sleep Environments

First 5 San Joaquin is pleased to present the Quarterly Health Messaging E-Toolkit on "Safer Sleep Environments." This quarter’s health messaging toolkit focuses on increasing the awareness about the risk of fatal sleeping accidents and injuries among young children due to unsafe sleep environments. Kits For New Parents

The Kit for New Parents contains all the parenting information, advice and useful tips first-time parents and care-givers need to best prepare for the joys and challenges that lie ahead. The Kit includes: Advice for New Parents DVD, Parents Guide - "What to do When Your Child Gets Sick", and other tips on health, nutrition, safety, and discipline. The First 5 Kits for New Parents also features a DVD just for dads! The Daddy's Tool Bag Program was inspired through a dads' focus group that discovered the need for training and education for fathers-to-be. The program was developed with the goal to strengthen the bond between new fathers and their children through educational and hands-on experiences. The DVD features an entertaining 45-minute video that covers the important basics for taking care of a new baby from a dad's perspective. Click on View more information to download an order form. First 5 San Joaquin School Readiness Longitudinal Evaluation Study: Year 4 Databook

On December 1, 2011 the Commission accepted the First 5 San Joaquin School Readiness Longitudinal Evaluation Study: Year 4 Databook. This report documents year four of a five year study on the outcomes of preschool and school readiness investments. Parent surveys collected from 258 families provide insight as to the successes of these programs, as well as teacher surveys and standardized school district data. In December of 2012 the Commission will receive the full report for this five year study. View more information. (12/13/2011)
