JourneyWORKs

The JourneyWORKs program provides home visitation services to address mental health and substance abuse issues for families that are participating in the CalWORKs Welfare-to-Work program. Parent Educators help parents:

  • Set goals
  • Obtain treatment
  • Connect with useful community services

FamilyWORKs

The FamilyWORKs program provides home visitation services to California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids (CalWORKs) families with children ages 0 to 3. Families in this program participate in:

  • Family engagement activities

The First 5 Home Visitation Initiative provides home visitation services to help parents :

  • Make healthy lifestyle changes through lessons focused on nutrition and physical activity
  • Improve parenting practices including lessons on financial stability

Parent Educators (Home Visitors)

Who are Parent Educators?
Parent Educators are trained individuals ready to assist and guide parents through the ups and downs of parenthood. Parent Educators receive extensive training prior to conducting home visits. Parent Educators specialize in providing personalized plans for each family they serve.

How do home visits work?
Home visits are conveniently offered in the comform of your own home. Home visits typically take place two to three times a month and occasional check-in phone calls may happen in between visits.  Each visit lasts about one hour.  The Parent Educator will work with you to schedule the home visit at a time that works best for you.

How should I prepare for my first home visit?
Parent Educators will call you prior to your first visit to comfirm the time and location, and to prepare you and your family for the visit and review any questions or  concerns you may have. Parent Educators take a non-judgmental approach to providing services to ensure you feel as comfortable as possible.

756 Children and Parents help by home visiting programs

In 2018-2019, First 5 San Joaquin home visiting programs helped 756 children and their parents by providing home visits that were focused on child development, family self-sufficiency, healthy eating and physical activity, and job skills training.
